DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN TANZANIA

LONDOROSSI GATE TO MTI MKUBWA CAMP

After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration, then proceed to the trailhead. Begin trekking through the lush rainforest, home to black-and-white colobus monkeys and rich birdlife. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp for your first night on the mountain.
MTI MKUBWA CAMP TO SHIRA 2 CAMP
- Altitude: 2,820m to 3,850m
- Distance: 16 km (9.9 miles)
- Hiking Time: 7–8 hours
- Accommodation: Shira 2 Camp
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Trek through heather and moorland zones, crossing the scenic Shira Plateau with stunning views of Kibo Peak. Reach Shira 2 Camp, where you will rest and acclimatize.
SHIRA 2 CAMP TO BARRANCO CAMP (VIA LAVA TOWER)
- Altitude: 3,850m to 4,600m (Lava Tower), then descend to 3,900m
- Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
- Hiking Time: 6–7 hours
- Accommodation: Barranco Camp
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m) for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp. Enjoy breathtaking views and rest in preparation for the Barranco Wall climb the next day.
BARRANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAMP
- Altitude: 3,900m to 3,995m
- Distance: 5 km (3.1 miles)
- Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
- Accommodation: Karanga Camp
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Climb the challenging but rewarding Barranco Wall, then traverse ridges and valleys to reach Karanga Camp. This shorter hike allows for better acclimatization.
KARANGA CAMP TO BARAFU CAMP
- Altitude: 3,995m to 4,673m
- Distance: 4 km (2.5 miles)
- Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
- Accommodation: Barafu Camp
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
A steady ascent through alpine desert leads to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt. Rest early in preparation for the midnight trek to Uhuru Peak.
UHURU PEAK & DESCENT TO MWEKA CAMP
- Altitude: 4,673m to 5,895m (Summit), then descend to 3,100m
- Distance: 17 km (10.5 miles)
- Hiking Time: 10–14 hours
- Accommodation: Mweka Camp
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Begin your summit push at midnight, climbing through steep switchbacks to Stella Point (5,739m), then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement before descending to Mweka Camp for rest.
DESCENT TO MWEKA GATE & DEPARTURE
- Altitude: 3,100m to 1,640m
- Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
- Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for relaxation. Depending on your departure schedule, you may head to the airport or continue your Tanzania adventure.
